Windsurfing: Newton Bay, Porthcawl Wind Direction: NW Wind Stength: 20-30 knots Surf / Sea State: Flat with swell out back Air Temperature: 5ºC Sea Temperature: 8ºC Weather: Cloudy Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Fist time sailing here despite visiting a couple of times before. Kelvin
was out on a 5.3 and I was about to rig a 5m when a couple of other people
turned up and were rigging 5.8's so I went with my 5.6 instead.
Well powered up from the start and a little overpowered out the back but I
was having fun on the swell out the back. It's quite a nice place to sail
as it is mainly flat water but now and then some swell rolls into the bay
and breaks allowing for some jumping or wave-riding but without the
white-water everywhere that I'm used to.
The wind then picked up and I was completely overpowered an unable to even
get on the board so ended up downwind a little and on the rocks. I walked
back and had a few more goes but the wind was now too strong most of the
time and it was getting late so Kelvin and I packed up.
I would have been better off on the 5m afterall. Good to get out somewhere
new though.
